Scholarships

Coast Mountains School District offers a wide range of scholarship opportunities for students. Provincial scholarships are one of several types of scholarships, awards, and bursaries available to students. There are also District and School-based scholarships provided by the school community as well as local businesses.

Each graduating student is responsible for researching the kinds of scholarship opportunities which they may be interested in exploring. Your school counsellors are there to help and guide you in the right direction. They will have information on provincial, district and school-based scholarships, along with post-secondary entrance scholarships and much more. There are many opportunities out there! It is quite a lot of work to apply for scholarships, but it is worth the effort!

Scholarships are not always awarded solely based on marks. A service component (either school or community based) is often required, so remember to get involved with your community.

District/Authority Scholarships

District/Authority Scholarships are offered by the BC Ministry of Education and Childcare to recognize graduating students in British Columbia for excellence in their chosen areas of strength and interest. These scholarships are intended to help students pursue post-secondary education.

The District/Authority scholarship is awarded to 5500 high school graduates who have demonstrated excellence in their chosen area. The Ministry allocates these awards, pro-rated to school districts and independent schools across the province, based on enrolment. The award is a $1250 voucher that can be used toward post-secondary education tuition.

Students have five years to redeem their District/Authority scholarship vouchers; an expiry date is printed on each voucher and extensions are not possible.

Application packages are available at each of our secondary schools in Coast Mountains School District. To win a scholarship, students must submit their application to their School Awards Coordinator by the internal deadline set by the school. Students selected as conditional recipients must satisfy the following requirements by August 31 of their graduating year to be confirmed as a recipient and receive their scholarship voucher.
